It has now grown up into the center of thoracic surgery in the Yellow River Delta. Under the leadership of Professor Zhang Qingguang, our proficiency has improved rapidly. Owing to the co-efforts of the entire staff over 3 decades, our department is now equipped with 42 beds, and staffed with 11 doctors and 15 nurses, among whom there are 2 professors and1 associate professor. Our academic achievements have been extensively acknowledged at home and abroad. Professor Zhang Qingguang, the director of the department, serves as the chairman of Binzhou Thoracic Surgery Society and a standing committee member of the Thoracic Tumor Branch of Shandong Anticancer Association The Department of Thoracic Surgery is strengthening its competitiveness with its strong technology, hardworking team and sophisticated equipment. So far, our equipment include high-definition thoracoscope, ultrasonic scalpel, ventilator, defibrillator and vibration sputum eliminator. Since 2010 our department has established four subspecialties focusing on pulmonary diseases, esophageal diseases, mediastinal diseases and thoracic trauma respectively. We have accumulated tens of thousands of cases of surgical treatment experience of thoracic diseases, and complete approximately 500 thoracic surgeries every year. Minimally invasive treatment of thoracic disease is our feature; more than 100 cases with video-assisted thoracic surgeries (VATS) have been performed each year. Since 2011, thoracoscopic surgeries account for 30% of the total. Among them, pulmonary minimally invasive operations account for more than 60% of the total. The thoracoscopy has the advantage of small incision, less pain and rapid recovery; in addition, it is significantly effective in the treatment of many diseases, such as lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mediastinal tumor, pneumothorax, funnel chest, etc. We have always paid great attention to teaching and research. We offer teaching and training for undergraduate students, postgraduate students and visiting doctors. Scientific research has always been a key mission for our department. We have focused on the research of both the mechanism of molecular biology of lung cancer and esophageal cancer and early diagnosis and treatment of both diseases. We will use our exquisite and enthusiastic service to relieve the pain of our patients as much as possible.
